This is a well-preserved Indian Moghul, Maharajah ceremonial parade axe (c. mid 1800s).
The axe has a crescent-shaped blade etched with flowers and inlaid with copper canopies and stately royal figures. The metal and wood shaft is secured by 3 brass domed rivets with a metal end cap, the shaft head inscribed with copper inlaid Sanskrit writing, and topped with an impressive 4½ inch spike.
This antique axe would have been similar to the decorative axes that an Indian Maharajah (Prince) would have carried along celebratory parade routes, and will make a stellar addition to any art collection!
